Gynecologic oncologists treat many cancers of the female reproductive system including cervical, endometrial and uterine, ovarian, vaginal and vulvar. They are cancer specialists who train first as obstetricians/gynecologists, then complete two to four years of structured training in all of the effective treatments for gynecologic cancers (surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and experimental treatments). Additionally, they study the biology and pathology of gynecologic cancer. Gynecologic oncologists are board certified, ensuring they meet the profession’s highest standards.
Our gynecologic oncologists will tailor the best treatment plan for you, drawing on their extensive expertise and consulting with other Oncology Hematology Care specialists.
If your physician recommends surgery, you may be a candidate for the new minimally-invasive robotic surgery. Marcia Bowling, MD and Nancy Simon, MD, are two of only a few gynecologic oncology surgeons in the region who perform this procedure. They have performed more gynecologic surgeries using robotic surgery than any physicians in the Greater Cincinnati area. Hospitals with the robotic equipment available include Bethesda North and The Christ Hospital.
You can view Dr. Bowling talking about its benefits. More information about the technique is also available at www.davincisurgery.com.
